Learning from Old Times

Wanting to keep up to date with some of the latest thoughts in business and technology I subscribed to a few magazines. It has provided a useful personal learning experience for a number of reasons. I share them in order to see if my perspective is valid.

1. Well documented research provides a positive impression on the reader, as to the width and depth the reporter goes to. This makes for much more informative reading, trying to see different scopes and points of view. Challenging the status quo with investigations and an open minded approach impacts positively on the reader.

2. Keeping opinion out of the articles as much as possible, or at the least, saving it until the end for a conclusion that wraps up the various data and other information presented; allows the reader to make up their own mind about things. This consequentially means that the reader becomes more engaged in the material since their own input is necessary to comprehend and appreciate the development of the published article.

I have been lax in reading the latest editions, and am catching up now with those from a few months ago …
3. I am surprised with how articles relate to the coming times that they present; whether it builds on a recap from the past, or whether it projects into the future. I am naturally inclined towards those that remain relevant even now.
